1900 Boer War Issue Chocolate Tin With Chocolate
This is a very rare item a genuine 1900 Boer War complete tin of chocolate.
These were issued during the 1900 Boer War conflict this one was produced by Fry`s to find a complete untouched tin over 124 years old is extremely rare and in this condition.
The story that I know behind this tin was that, after the end of the Boer war the soldier this was issued to stayed in South Africa and joined the Natal Mounted Police, he started a family out there. Eventually with his passing and the changes that occurred the family decided to relocate back to England.
Most of these tins encountered in the UK have considerable rusting and tarnish from the damp enviroment where they were stored.
This tin is exceptional the colouring and even the painted detail to Queen Victoria`s hair is still present.
The internal foil that wraps the chocolate is present although torn in places the inner paper wrapping in fine condition with traces of the original seal was.
This chocolate was meant to be broken off and used to make hot chocolate rather than eating as if a bar like today. I believe the old chocolate is a more purer form.
This tin and chocolate is museum quality and you would be unlikely to find a tin itself in as good let alone complete
